Bifacial Acoustic Barriers – ML System Transforms Munich Viaducts into Power Plants

Bifacial Acoustic Screens – ML System Turns Munich Viaducts into Power Plants

The project in Munich demonstrates that ML System is a technological leader in building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). We provide the “smart engine” that enables our partners, such as Kohlhauer, to transform the face of global infrastructure.

The Kreuzhof Bridges project in Munich is our flagship reference on the European Smart City market. We have demonstrated that ML System’s BIPV technology is ready to meet the engineering challenges of road infrastructure. By delivering our solutions to the heart of Bavaria, we prove that we are helping build the foundation for the smart cities of the future.

Polish technology powers Munich’s infrastructure

A modern metropolis requires solutions that combine passive protection with active energy generation. At the Kreuzhof junction (part of the Kreuzhof Bridges project), traditional acoustic barriers were replaced with active bifacial (double-sided) modules from ML System.

It is this technology that is key to the success of the investment. Unlike conventional solutions, our modules harness light reflected from the bridge surface, the barriers, and surrounding infrastructure. This project sets new standards in the most demanding European markets, confirming that Polish know-how in the field of BIPV knows no boundaries.

Technologiczny fundament: Partnerstwo ML System & Kohlhauer

Energy from the Kreuzhof Bridges – how is it used?

The Munich project is an excellent example of a circular economy at the urban scale. Energy generated directly from the acoustic barriers powers road infrastructure lighting, as well as safety and traffic management systems (ITS), including cameras, sensors, and information displays. This solution significantly reduces the operating costs of urban infrastructure and supports the development of smart cities.

Bifacial Technology Increasing Efficiency

The acoustic barriers used in the project leverage bifacial technology, which can increase energy yield by up to 40% compared to laminates based on standard photovoltaic cells. In such modules, energy can be harvested from both sides, as both faces of the cells remain active. This allows the solution to efficiently utilize both direct solar radiation and light reflected from the surrounding environment.

Global reach of Polish innovation

The implementation in Munich proves that ML System is the technological core of modern building systems, rapidly expanding in international markets. We design and deliver smart solutions that enable our partners, such as Kohlhauer, to transform global infrastructure.
