The Alte Münze Building – Munich’s Historic Mint
Since 1986, the Alte Münze (Old Mint) on Hofgraben Street in Munich has been the headquarters of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Protection. This remarkable Renaissance building was originally commissioned by Duke Albrecht V and constructed between 1563 and 1567 to serve as a court stable and an art hall. Today, the site enters a new chapter in its history with the planned roof renovation using ML System’s cutting-edge photovoltaic roof tile – PhotonRoof®.

ML System S.A. has been selected as the supplier of the innovative PhotonRoof® photovoltaic roof tiles, which will be installed as part of the renovation of the historic Alte Münze in Munich.
As the seat of Bavaria’s Heritage Conservation Office, the Alte Münze is a site where exceptional attention is given to both the quality and aesthetics of all construction materials.
It is a great honor for us that our ceramic photovoltaic roof tiles – PhotonRoof® – have been chosen for such a prestigious landmark as the historic Alte Münze in Munich. This project demonstrates that photovoltaic technology can be seamlessly integrated into architectural design, even in the context of protected heritage sites and culturally sensitive urban landscapes. PhotonRoof® combines state-of-the-art energy generation with an elegant form that harmonizes with the character of the building.
With projects like this, we strengthen ML System’s brand recognition among the most demanding investors and expand our presence in international markets, where building regulations combined with the European ‘Renovation Wave’ will drive demand for our solutions. Importantly, this initiative perfectly aligns with our company’s growth strategy of delivering innovative and standardized products across Europe and beyond.
